Submit your best artwork to win a portion of the prize money. Open to ALL current El Rancho students. All submissions must be turned in by FRIDAY, JUNE 1, 2012. Submit work to your current art teacher or Mr. Lara. Digital art or photography must be printed at 8.5″ x 11″. Include your name, grade, and student ID on the back of the work.

Adobe Aspire Award Finalist

Our very own Christina Lara has been chosen as a finalist for the Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards. The Adobe Youth Voices Aspire Awards is an international juried media competition that recognizes projects that best illustrate the program’s ‘Create with Purpose’ philosophy. Winning submissions are original, high-quality youth-produced multimedia created to address critical issues and effect positive change. Her work can be viewed on the Aspire Awards site in the area of graphic design. 1st and 2nd place will be chosen by judges. There is also an audience prize that will be chosen based on Facebook “likes” and Twitter shares. You can add your vote here.

Students from Digital Imaging 1B took and manipulated photographs of themselves. They took sections of the portrait and masked in different textures. They also mixed in a line drawing of the portrait. Some of these portraits will be featured in El Rancho’s 2nd Annual Compositions Art Show opening Saturday, April 14. View gallery.

drkrm is pleased to present Ansel Adams Los Angeles, rarely seen photographs that reveal the lost landscape and lifestyle of a prewar Los Angeles. These nostalgic images from the archives of The Los Angeles Public Library Ansel Adams Collection, represent Ansel Adams as a photojournalist on assignment for Fortune Magazine in 1940. Ansel Adams Los Angeles will be on display from February 18 through March 17, 2012. EXTRA CREDIT AVAILABLE!

After selecting photos, students converted them into black and white. Using photoshop, and their own keen eyes, students carefully painted color back into the photos to emphasize the subject. Check the gallery out.
