Dialogue Scene – Students learned audio recording techniques and screenwriting basics in order to produce an original scripted scene.

Frights, Camera, Action! (2015 edition)

Video Production students learned about story-boarding and editing in the process of making these movies. Each group started with the same scenario, but were tasked with creating their own ending to the story. Additionally, each group attempted to build suspense and tension through editing and cinematography.

Frights, Camera, Action!

Video Production students studied methods of creating suspense and tension from a variety of filmmakers (including Alfred Hitchcock). Then they tried to create their own. Here are a few short movies where the students attempted to bring the audience to the edge of their seats.

Students learned the fundamentals of cinematography: the basic types of shots used in cinema, the essential rules of visual composition, and the primary camera moves.

Intellectual Montage & the Kuleshov Effect

Students learned that images arranged consecutively can create story or meaning. This project illustrates the idea that meaning can change depending on the sequence of images. Students created two sequences. The 1st and 3rd shots are the same in both sequences. The 2nd shot changes how the viewer interprets each sequence.

Video Production 45 Second Short Movies

Students in Video Production conceived, shot, and edited short movies (30 – 60 seconds). Their goal was to create a story that illustrated the theme of change. They also focused on telling the story visually while considering shot types, shot composition, and basic editing techniques.
