Memory Project: Puerto Rico

Artist: Erin Abeyta
Artist: Yazlin Juarez

The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence, and extreme poverty.

This year, we received photographs of children from Puerto Rico. Each student in Advanced Art and AP Studio Art created a portrait for the child to receive. We were also able to raise money to send these portraits off and to aid the children in other ways. Lastly, eternal gratitude to our generous donors for making this project possible: Stephanie Senteno-Tapia, Tom Waldron, Joseph Jimenez, Jay Bennett, Jenna Heffernan, Joel Chappo, Jeannette Hernandez, Sean U’Ren, Dave MH, Kristen Pinta, Steve Francis, John Crone, Travis Flournoy, Cindy Romero, Abigail Figueroa, Marco Zuviate, Mia Leos, and Jean Chodos.

AP STUDIO ART: Concentration Series Gallery

In AP Studio Art, a section of the portfolio requires students to create a series of artworks that address a single concept developed by each student. Here are the concentration series that the students created this year: https://apstudioarterhs.wordpress.com/

The Memory Project – AP Studio Art

The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence, and extreme poverty.

Each student in AP Studio Art received a photograph of a child from Colombia and created a portrait for the child. Additionally, the class helped raise money for the delivery of the portraits. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated to help us with the project.

Tim Burton @ LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art presents a major retrospective exploring the full range of Tim Burton’s creative work, both as a film director and as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer.

Tim Burton was born in Burbank in 1958. After studying at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), he worked as an animator at the Walt Disney Studios before breaking out on his own. Taking inspiration from popular culture, fairy tales and traditions of the gothic, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as an expression of a personal vision.

The exhibition brings together over 700 drawings, paintings, photographs, moving-image works, storyboards, puppets, concept artworks, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, including art from a number of unrealized and little-known personal projects.

Extra credit available, of course.
